Description

Sterling silver handled glove stretchers Birminham 1914. Item 4687.These sterling silver handled glove stretchers came from a period when elegant, fashionable ladies wore long, tight fitting gloves. In order to get them on, the fingers of the gloves needed to be stretched slightly so that the lady could get them on her hands. The silver handles are decorated with raised arabesques, a design that was popular in the Edwardian period, and the steel prongs appear to be silvered. They measure 193 mm (7.5 inches) in length and 60 mm (2 3/8ths inches) across the handles. The condition is very, very good. This pair were made in Birmingham in 1914, but unfortunately the hallmarks have been poorly struck and are hard to read (and photograph), so the maker is unknown.
