Victorian silver plated nut pick. Item 1985. This silver plated nut pick comes from a period in the Victorian era when touching food with your hands was frowned upon, and a nut pick was also a more elegant way of extracting the edible part from the shell than using gloved hands. Boxed sets containing grape scissors, nut crackers and nut picks were de rigeur in fashionable late Victorian homes. This one is 118 mm (4 5/8ths inches) in length. Overall it is in good condition, but it has been dropped and the point has been slightly bent. C 1890.
